Abstract:
Objective
To explore the clinical features, pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria and treatment strategy of cytomegalovirus retinitis(CMVR) in infants.
Methods
A retrospective analysis was performed based on the clinical data of 11 infants with CMVR having received treatment in our department from August 2015 to June 2018. The clinical features, treatment and prognosis were summarized and analyzed by reviewing the relevant literature.
Results
Seven infants with CMVR were female and 4 were male, aged 1 month to 8 months; 9 infants with cough or fever as firstonset symptom and 2 with diarrhea as firstonset symptom were hospitalized; serum CMV-DNA of 11 infants and breast milk CMV-DNA 11 breastfed infants were positive. In 11 infants with CMVR 19 eyes had varying degrees of degeneration of retinal spots, which were significantly improved after treatment with ganciclovir, and no obvious complications were observed.
Conclusion
Cytomegalovirus retinitis is an extremely rare disease with insidious onset and low diagnostic rate in infancy. The disease should arouse adequate awareness, in order to improve the quality of life of children by early diagnosis and treatment.
