Abstract:
Cough and diarrhea are two common pediatric disorders. The pathogenesis of cough is the upward reversal of the lung qi while the pathogenesis of diarrhea is the sinking of the clear qi.The pathogenesis partly results from either the phlegm or the dampness and both are related to qiactivity disorder syndrome. The treatment should be to harmonize the rising and the sinking of the qi.For cough we should lower the adverse qi while for diarrhea we should raise the clear qi.To treat cough we should resolve phlegm while to treat diarrhea we should dispel dampness. In the treatment of both disorders we should regulate the metabolism of body fluid. There is consistency as well as contradictions in the pathogenesis and treatment of these two disorders. Therefore,we should regulate the qiactivity or harmonize the body fluid. When both occur, the preferred method of treatment is to regulate the Middle Jiao.
