Abstract: Objective: To study the effect of Chaishao Pingxian decoction on brain GABA content of young rats with epilepsy and to investigate its mechanism. Methods: The rats were randomly divided into 7 groups,by number,namely,low-(A),moderate(B) and high-dose(C) group, western medicine group(D),Chinese and western medicine group(E),model group(F) and normal control group(G),with 10 rats in each group.PTZ was injected into SD rats to establish epilepsy model and the behavior was observed.Chaishao Pingxian decoction was given as intervention treatment and after 24 days ELISA was used to determine GABA content in brain tissues. Results: There was statistical difference on convulsion grade between 24d after treatment and 1d before treatment in group E,but no difference in the other groups.Compared with group F,GABA content was higher in group A,B,C,D and E,and difference was statistical(P<0.01).When comparing GABA content of group G with that of the other six groups, there was statistical difference(P<0.01). Conclusion: Chaishao Pingxian decoction has therapeutic effect on the epilepsy grade and the decrease of GABA content in brain tissues in tats with epilepsy.
