Clinical significance of serum level of vitamin A and vitamin D in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus

Abstract:
Objective:To analyze the level of serum vitamin A and vitamin D in children with T1DM and its clinical significance.
Methods:From February 2012 to January 2015 in Pediatrics Department of Nanyang Central Hospital,45 children with T1DM were selected as T1DM group,27 cases with DKA| 38 healthy children undergoing physical examination at the same time period were selected as control group. The level of vitamin A and vitamin D were detected by ELISA.
Results:The level of serum vitamin A and vitamin D in T1DM group was lower than that in control group(P<0.05). The level of serum vitamin A and vitamin D had no significant differences in children with simple T1DM and children combined with DKA(P>0.05).
Conclusion:Timely and adequate supplement of vitamin A and vitamin D may reduce or delay the onset of T1DM in children.
