Abstract: Objective To study the effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with visual music therapy on the scores of Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI) and Peabody Developmental Motor ScaleFine Motor (PDMSFM) in children with mental retardation. Methods A retrospective analysis was made; 64 children with mental retardation who were admitted to our hospital from February 2017 to February 2019 for visual music therapy were selected as control group, and 56 children with mental retardation who were admitted to the hospital for transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with visual music therapy during the same period were selected as observation group. Before treatment and after 6 months of treatment, the scores of developmental level[Denver Development Screening Test (DDST), PDMS-FM], daily behavioral ability[Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL)] and WPPSI were compared between the two groups. Results After 6 months of treatment, the scores of each item and the total scores of DDST, CBCL, WPPSI and PDMS-FM in the two groups were significantly higher than those before treatment, and the scores in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group during the same time period (P<0.05). Conclusion Transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with visual music therapy can improve the developmental level, daily behavior ability and intelligence level of children with mental retardation, and it is conducive to the rehabilitation.
