Abstract: Objective:To investigate the relationship between ADMA and NRDS and whether cord blood concentration of ADMA is a reliable biochemical marker to predict respiratory distress syndrome in preterm infants. Methods:Eighteen preterm infants with NRDS were included in experimental group and seventeen preterm infants whose gestation age was less then 35 weeks and birth weight was less than 2 500 g were in control group.Experimental group was divided into stage one group and stage two group.Draw 2 mL umbilical cord blood, and then draw 2 mL of radial artery blood respectively at 7 days and 14 days after birth. All the procedures were carried out strictly according to the supplied structure manuals in the ELISA kits. Results:(1)There was no linear correlation between the level of cord plasma concentrations of ADMA and birth weight, gestational age, mode of delivery and mother with hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy.(2)In stage two group the level of cord plasma concentration of ADMA was significantly higher than that of stage one and the control group(P<0.05).The levels at 7 days and 14 days were not significantly different between experimental group and control group.(3)The level of cord plasma concentration of ADMA in stage two group was significantly related to length of mechanical ventilation(r=0.532,P<0.05) and the length of oxygen(r=0.663,P<0.05). Conclusions:The level of cord plasma concentration of ADMA is negatively correlated with birth weight, gestational age, mode of delivery and mother with hypertensive disorder complicating pregnancy.ADMA may be able to predict the occurrence of stage two NRDS.The higher the level of cord plasma concentrations of ADMA,the longer the time of mechanical ventilation and oxygen inhalation.
