Effect of sensorimotor training on motor skills of children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract: Objective To explore the effect of sensorimotor training on sensory development and motor skills in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).Methods Totally 60 children with ASD diagnosed in the rehabilitation center of our hospital from January 2018 to October 2019 were randomly divided into treatment group(n=30) and control group(n=30). The control group received routine rehabilitation training, and the treatment group received sensorimotor training in addition to routine rehabilitation training. Before treatment and 3 months after treatment, the children's sensory integration ability (vestibular dysfunction, excessive tactile defense, proprioceptive disorder, in sufficient development of learning ability) was evaluated according to the children's sensory integration ability development scale, and the gross and fine motor abilities were evaluated according to the Peabody motor development scale.Results After 3 months of treatment, the scores of sensory integration development scale and gross and fine motor function scores of the two groups were significantly higher than those before treatment, and the treatment group was higher than the control group, and there were significant differences(P<0.05).Conclusion Sensorimotor training can promote the development of sensory system and improve motor skills in children with ASD.
