Abstract: Objective:To summarize the nursing and observation of complications occurring in 408 low birth weight infants with peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) dwelled in the elbow vein or elbow downward vein. Methods:Analyze the reasons of complications, such as phlebitis, swelling, blockage and infection.By giving 0.1% Rafe Nurto for wet dressing, applying hydrocolloid dressings, and keeping the punctured upper arm in steady position,we aimed to reduce the incidence rate of venous transfusion complications. Results:All the catheters were removed as planed except 12 cases with severe complications. Conclusion:Taking effective nursing measures and good understanding of PICC catheter maintenance is important to guarantee the infusion safety by PICC.
