Abstract:
Objective:
To observe the effect of modified Ganlu Xiaodu Dan as an assistant treatment for children with acute suppurative tonsillitis.
Methods:
A total of 108 children with acute suppurative tonsillitis were selected as the study subjects. These children were randomly divided into control group and observation group. The children in the control group were treated with conventional western medicine, while for the children in the observation group, a traditional Chinese medicine of modified Ganlu Xiaodu Dan was given besides the same treatment as the control group. The treatment lasted for 5 days as a course. After one course, the time of fever, the time of exudates disappearance, the time of tonsil contraction, the time of congestion relief and the clinical efficacy as well as adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.
Results:
The cure rate of the observation group was 48.15%(26/54), and the total effective rate was 98.15%(53/54), both of which were significantly higher than those of the control group[the cure rate being 27.78%(15/54), the total effective rate being 85.19%(46/54)].The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). The time of fever abatement, the time of exudates disappearance, the time of tonsil contraction and the time of congestion relief in the observation group were significantly shorter than those in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). No adverse reactions were observed in both groups.
Conclusion:The clinical effect of modified Ganlu Xiaodu Dan for the children with acute suppurative tonsillitis is definite, which is worthy of clinical application.
