Abstract:
Objective
To explore the efficacy and safety of Saccharomyces boulardii in the treatment of pediatric dyspeptic diarrhea.
Methods
The databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trial, CNKI fulltext database, VIP, and WanFang Data were retrieved. The randomized controlled trials(RCT) on the treatment for pediatric dyspeptic diarrhea with Saccharomyces boulardii which were published publicly from the establishment of the database to March 20,2018 were collected. After two independent researchers conducted literature screening, data extraction and quality evaluation, RevMen 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis.
Results
A total of 12 randomized controlled trials and 1198 children were included. The meta-analysis showed that the effective rate of using Saccharomyces boulardii was significantly higher in children than in the control group[OR=5.35,95%CI(3.55,8.09),P<0.000 01], and the time for vomiting to relieve[MD=-1.07, 95%CI(-1.62,-0.52),P=0.000 1], diarrhea relief time[SMD=-2.57,95%CI(-4.22,-0.92),P=0.002],abdominal pain relief time[MD=-0.88,95%CI(-1.11,-0.64),P<0.000 01], stool recovery time[MD=-1.37,95%CI(-1.69,-0.91),P<0.000 01],time of stool trait returning to normal[MD=-1.60,95%CI(-2.00,-1.20),P<0.000 01],and dehydration correction time[MD=-0.60,95%CI(-0.72,-0.48),P<0.000 01] were shorter than the control group, but the antipyretic time[MD=-0.50,95%CI(-1.40,0.40),P=0.28] was not significantly shortened.
ConclusionThe results of this study suggest that Saccharomyces boulardii has certain advantages in the treatment of pediatric dyspeptic diarrhea compared with conventional treatment, which can shorten the time of disappearance of symptoms, but it can not shorten the time of fever.
