Abstract:

Adenoid hypertrophy (AH) is one of the common upper respiratory tract diseases in pediatric clinical practice, characterized by complex etiology and recurrent symptoms. Western medicine mainly relies on surgical treatment and adjuvant hormone therapy, but surgery is invasive and symptoms tend to recur after discontinuing hormone drugs. In contrast, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has unique advantages in the treatment of AH and is easily accepted by parents. Current domestic and foreign literatures mostly focus on the summary of medical cases managed by famous TCM physicians, the improvement effect of TCM on clinical symptoms, and efficacy evaluation. However, researches on the mechanism of action of TCM in the treatment of AH are relatively scarce. Therefore, this article systematically reviews domestic and foreign literatures in recent years, summarizes and refines the mechanisms of action of TCM active ingredients, TCM herb pairs, TCM compound prescriptions, and TCM external therapies in the treatment of AH, aiming to provide certain reference for subsequent ideas on clinical diagnosis and treatment and experimental research on AH.
