Abstract:
Objective
To systematically evaluate the therapeutic effect and safety of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of children with cough variant asthma．
Methods
We searched The Cochrane Library，PubMed，Embase，CNKI，SinoMed，VIP and WanFang Databases to collect randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of cough variant asthma in children from inception to November 2017. Two reviewers independently screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of included studies and made a Meta-analysis by using RevMan5.3 software．
Results
A total of 34 RCTs involving 2 230 patients were included into the study．The Meta-analysis results showed that compared with western medicine，the traditional Chinese medicine could significantly improve the clinical efficiency［RR=1.20，95%CI(1.12，1.29)，P＜0.000 01］，decrease the recurrence rate［RR=0.40，95%CI(0.21,0.77)，P=0.005］，and reduce the incidence of adverse reactions［RR=0.07，95%CI(0.04，0.13)，P＜0.000 01］，and there were statistically significant differences between the two groups．
ConclusionBased on the current evidence, this study shows that the traditional Chinese medicine is superior to western medicine in overall clinical efficacy and as the safety of  treatment.
