Abstract:

Precocious puberty in children shortens the period of growth and development and is associated with adverse long-term health outcomes. Obesity is an important risk factor for precocious puberty, and the two often coexist and their mechanisms are involved in each other. Based on the theory of "Yang transforms qi and yin takes shape" in Huangdi Neijing, Prof. Zhang Guiju proposes that the pathogenesis of obesity combined with precocious puberty is characterized by insufficient yang transforming qi and excessive yin taking shape in the early stage, excessive use of yang and loss of yin essence in the middle stage, and loss of yin involving yang and insufficient use of yang in the late stage. The treatment emphasizes the staged approach: at the early stage, warm and recuperate the spleen and kidney yang qi, transform phlegm dampness, and eliminate fat and turbidity; at the middle stage, nourish the kidney yin, clear and reduce the phlegm-fire, and dredge and regulate qi; at the late stage, tonify the kidney and fill up the essence, balance yin and yang, and regulate the vital organs. The whole process of eliminating phlegm dampness and fat and regulating qi and vital organs is aimed at warming yang and transforming qi to promote metabolism, nourishing yin and reducing fire to control hyperactivity of yang, tonifying the spleen and kidney to assist growth, and ultimately restoring the balance of yin and yang to ensure the normal developmental rhythms in children.
