Clinical Observation on treatment for constipation with lung-heat in children by modified Xiebai powder

Abstract:
Objective
To observe the clinical efficacy of the prescription, modified Xiebai powder, in the treatment of constipation(lungheat) in children.
Methods
Sixty patients with functional constipation treated in the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January to December 2014 were enrolled in the study. They were randomly divided into observation group and control group(30 in each). The observation group was treated with traditional Chinese medicine decoction, modified Xiebai powder, and the control group was treated with Chinese patent medicine, Maziren pill. The two groups also received basic treatment. The treatment lasted for 2 weeks.
Results
The clinical efficacy of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). After treatment, the scores of TCM primary syndrome and secondary syndrome of two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of TCM primary syndromes and secondary syndromes in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).
Conclusion
The clinical efficacy of modified Xiebai powder in the treatment of pulmonary heat constipation(lungheat) in children is significant, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
