Abstract: Objective To systematically evaluate the clinical effect of combining traditional Chinese with western medicine and western medicine alone in treating children's idiopathic short stature(ISS),and to provide evidence-based medical reference for clinical treatment of children's idiopathic short stature. Methods Researchers retrieved CNKI,WANFANG,VIP,CBM and PubMed,the retrieval time for each database was from its establishment to May 31,2022.The literature which eventually met eligibility criteria was analyzed by RevMan 5.4.1 software provided by Cochrane website. Results A total of 18 randomized controlled clinical trials were included in the study, sample size being 1 572 cases, among which 782 were in experimental group and 790 cases in control group. The forest plot meta-analysis showed that the total response rate of the experimental group receiving Chinese medicine combined with western medicine was significantly higher than that of the control group treated with western medicine alone, and it was the same with the growth of height and weight of children, and the improvement of insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1)and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3(IGFBP-3). Conclusion In the treatment of children with idiopathic short stature children, the role of Chinese medicine combined with western medicine is more significant than the western medicine alone. Therefore,in the clinical treatment process,it can be used in combination with Chinese medicine on the premise of accurate syndrome differentiation to improve the treatment effect on children with ISS.
