Abstract:

As one of Jiangsu Province's intangible cultural heritages, the Qianzimen Pediatrics has exerted profound influence in cities such as Yangzhou, Nanjing, cities in the Huai River Basin, and Beijing. The sixth-generation inheritor Li Yaoqian is honored as a renowned veteran TCM practitioner in Jiangsu. Adhering to the Qianzimen Pediatrics' philosophy of "valuing moderation, simplicity, frugality, and remarkable efficacy", he emphasizes the importance of regulating qi flow and balancing tonification and drainage in treating pediatric pulmonary diseases. Based on the medication characteristics of the Yangzhou Medical School and the principle of analogy, he proposes that the drug pair of Gouteng-Jicaihua possesses antispasmodic and antitussive effects, effectively alleviating childhood cough. Both Gouteng and Jicaihua are commonly used drugs in clinical TCM. Although they are classified under liver-soothing and wind-calming herbs and heat-clearing and dampness-resolving herbs, respectively, the two herbs exhibit synergistic effects in the treatment of cough, and the clinical efficacy is remarkable.
