Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are common respiratory infectious diseases in childhood, and are highly prevalent in spring and fall. They can be categorized into acute and chronic stages. The acute stage is characterized by rapid onset and progression of the disease, and in severe cases, hoarseness and even respiratory difficulties may occur. In the chronic stage, the disease is prolonged due to the lack of proper treatment.Repeated pharyngitis and tonsillitis can lead to voice changes in children. At present, there are not many western medicines that can effectively treat childhood pharyngitis and tonsillitis, which are mainly antibiotic drugs, and although there are many types of traditional Chinese medicines used to clear the throat, western pediatricians are not standardized in the selection, syndrome differentiation and application of traditional Chinese medicines. Therefore,it is particularly important to explore the treatment for pharyngitis and tonsillitis in children with integrated Chinese and western medicine. This consensus firstly systematizes the Chinese and western medical understanding of pharyngitis and tonsillitis in children;secondly,it discusses its staging, etiology and main risk factors;thirdly,it clarifies its diagnostic criteria;finally,it gives a detailed elaboration on the principle of integrated Chinese and western medicine treatment for pharyngitis and tonsillitis in children and the Chinese and western medicine treatment methods. This consensus provides Chinese and western pediatricians, especially western physicians, with ideas on integrated Chinese and western medicine treatment, and further standardizes the rational selection and application of Chinese and western medicines.

With the development of social economy and the change of lifestyle, more and more children are overweight and obese. If the obese children are not treated in time, they will gradually develop obesity syndrome, which will lay the groundwork for hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes and other diseases in adulthood, and also bring burden to the social economy and medical resources. Traditional Chinese medicine has its unique advantages in the treatment of simple obesity in children. This article reviews the research progress in the treatment of simple obesity in children from the aspects of etiology, pathogenesis, syndrome differentiation and internal and external treatment of traditional Chinese medicine. The syndrome differentiation of simple obesity generally follows "phlegm, deficiency and stasis". The main treatment methods are to strengthen spleen and supplement qi, remove dampness and eliminate phlegm, and activate qi and blood circulation to remove blood stasis. Single Chinese medicine, compound Chinese medicine and external treatment of Chinese medicine all play an important role in the treatment of simple obesity in children.

The etiology of tic disorder in children is complicated, the symptoms are various, and it is easy to be affected by social environment, so the treatment is challenging. Based on many years of clinical experience and through the combination with the theory of TCM and the characteristics of the disease, Professor Ma Rong first established the "Three-stem syndrome differentiation" mode for the treatment of children with tic disorder. The main content is as follows. The first step is disease differentiation, which is to take the root cause as the main point and make clear diagnosis. The second step is syndrome differentiation, which is to classify the syndrome and give prescription based on rules. The third step is symptom differentiation, which is to be clear with the symptoms and make modification. The differentiation of the disease is mainly the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Chinese and western medicine, and the clinical descriptive diagnosis is used to exclude the symptoms of eye tutting and nose shrugs caused by allergic conjunctivitis and allergic rhinitis. The syndrome differentiation is mainly based on the TCM syndromes of the children, and the main treatment principle is to calm the wind and stop movement. The patients with exogenous wind evil were the syndrome of exogenous wind and were treated with Yinqiao powder with modification. The patients with both beating other people and destroying objects and obscene language were the syndrome of phlegm-fire disturbing the heart, and were treated with Ditan decoction. The patients with irritability were qi stagnation turning into fire, and Xieqing pills were used with modification. The patients who were sensitive with too many doubts and much anxiety were qi stagnation activating wind, and they were treated with Chaihu Guizhi Longgu Muli decoction with modification. Symptom differentiation is based on disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation, and the drugs for treatment are selected according to different parts of twitches and different vocal manifestations, which plays the role of guiding meridians and directly eliminating symptoms. The "Three-step syndrome differentiation" mode has clear diagnosis and treatment plan, and can be adjusted flexibly according to disease-syndrome-symptom of the patients, which is effective in clinical practice.

Because children with short stature are shorter than children of the same age, they may suffer from low self-esteem,which seriously affects their mental health and has different degrees of impact on their future learning and lives.Traditional Chinese medicine has some advantages in the treatment of this disease because its syndrome differentiation and treatment can improve the growth and development of children. This paper first sorts out the historical development of short stature, which,as an independent name of the disease, was firstly seen in the textbook of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Pediatrics edited by Prof.Wang Xuefeng. Then, the etiology and mechanism of short stature are summarized. Its etiology is the deficiency of innate endowment and the lack of nutrition in later life. The disease is located in the spleen and kidneys, and it is closely related to the heart, liver and lungs. The nature of the disease is mostly deficiency. The primary mechanism of the disease is the deficiency of the five organs and the deficiency of essence and qi.The basic treatment principle is determined again, which is to support the spleen and nourish kidneys and also to take into account other organs.Among the treatment methods, the method of tonifying the kidneys and nourishing the liver is suitable to those with deficiency of yin in the liver and kidneys and loss of nourishment of the muscles and bones;the method of supporting the spleen and strengthening the stomach is suitable to those with weakness of the spleen and stomach and deficiency of qi and blood;the method of nourishing the kidneys and clearing the heart is suitable to those with deficiency of the heart and kidneys and imbalance of water and fire;the method of strengthening the spleen and nourishing the lungs is suitable to those with deficiency in the lungs and spleen and loss of qi of the mother;the method of warming and tonifying the kidney-yang is suitable to those with insufficiency of the kidney-yang and dysfunction of warming. Finally, the strategy of multi-dimensional care and prevention before the onset of disease is put forward. For children with short stature, attention should be paid to balanced nutrition, moderate increase in exercise, reasonable arrangement of sleep, and adjustment of the body in line with the four seasons.

Short stature has a significant impact on the physical and mental health of children, and it is a common disease in the endocrine department of pediatrics. Due to the rapid changes in children's growth and development and the complex etiology of short stature, there have always been such issues as missed diagnoses, misdiagnoses and insufficient intervention or overtreatment. This necessitates the strengthening of standardized diagnosis and treatment. This article discusses the challenges faced in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of children with short stature, especially emphasizing two aspects: one is to find out the etiology and make precise diagnosis, and the other is to perform individualized treatment strictly based on the indications. Meanwhile, the future direction of diagnosis and treatment of short stature is prospected, and suggestions are put forward for further standardization of diagnosis and treatment behavior of short stature, in order to provide useful reference for clinicians and policy makers.

Pneumonia is a common disease in children and one of the main causes of death in children under 5 years old.Bacteria are the most common pathogen in pneumonia among children in developing countries, and antibiotics are the main treatment drugs in clinical practice. However, the global situation of bacterial resistance is severe, which has become a great threat to human health. In traditional Chinese medicine it is believed that "the lungs and large intestine are related externally and internally," emphasizing the principle of "treating the lungs and intestines together." Modern medicine proposes the "lung gut axis," which reveals that changes in intestinal microbiota affect the occurrence, development, and prognosis of pulmonary diseases. It also proposes the method of treating pulmonary diseases by intervening in the microbiota. This article aims to demonstrate the role of probiotics in the treatment of lung and intestine simultaneously in children withpneumonia, providing new ideas for clinical treatment of pediatric pneumonia.

    Abstract265)      PDF(pc) (1016KB)(320)       Save
The clinical manifestation of precocious puberty is the premature development of secondary sexual characteristics, which can cause increased growth rate, rapid skeletal maturation, premature epiphyseal closure, etc. If not treated in time, it may cause children to be short in adulthood and increase the risk of endocrine diseases. Gonadotrophin releasing hormone analogue is the first choice in the treatment of this disease in western medicine, which can significantly inhibit the sexual development process by regulating the hypothalamicpituitarygonadal axis, but there is still controversy in terms of benefits to children's height. Traditional Chinese medicine therapy has been proven to be safe and effective in improving children's symptoms, regulating sex hormone levels, delaying gonadal development, improving height impairment, and increasing adult height. Professor Xiong Lei believes that the core pathological mechanism of this disease is kidneyyin deficiency and hyperactivity of liveryang fire. The treatment should be nourishing yin to strengthen the root, and lowering fire to clear sources. At the same time, for the patients with stagnated heat of liver channel, the method of dispersing stagnatedliver qi and clearing fire is used; for those with internal retention of phlegmdampness, the method of invigorating spleen to dissipate phlegm is used; for those with disharmony in the middle jiao, the method of invigorating spleen and harmonizing stomach is used. For children with rapid progression, gonadotrophin releasing hormone analogue can be used at the same time; for children with growth retardation and height impairment, recombinant human growth hormone should be considered to maximize their benefits to the height.

Objective To investigate the consistency of Infant Neurological International Battery (Infanib) and Gesell developmental scale in the assessment of motor development in high-risk infants. Methods From May 2022 to April 2023, 132 high-risk children were collected from our hospital as research subjects. Kappa values were calculated to determine the consistency of Infanib and Gesell developmental scales. Results The evaluation results of Infanib scale was consistent with that of Gesell developmental scale in 111 of the 132 children (84.09%),including 90 being assessed as normal and 21 as borderline (suspected) or developmental delay. The consistency was 0.57 in the assessment of gross motor quotient for Infanib scale and Gesell developmental scale. The consistency of the two scales was 0.62, 0.67 and 0.41 in children under 4 months, between 4 and 8 months and over 8 months. In the high-risk term infants, the consistency of evaluation by Infanib scale and Gesell developmental scale was 0.61, which was 0.32 in high-risk preterm infants. Conclusion The consistency of Infanib and Gesell developmental scales is generally good, but low in children >8 months of age and children at high risk of preterm birth. It is suggested that different scales should be selected according to the age and birth situation of children to accurately reflect the true level of children's motor development.
